1. The Oklahoma Sooners began in 1895 as a men's basketball team known as the "Boomer Sooner". The name was changed to their current moniker after World War I.


2. The Oklahoma-Texas rivalry is one of college football’s oldest and most heated rivalries. It started in 1900 when Texas hosted Oklahoma for their first ever game.


3. Coach Bud Wilkinson led the Sooners to an unprecedented 47 consecutive wins from 1953 to 1957, earning them three national championships during his tenure.


4. Since 1947, the Oklahoma Sooners have won seven national championships and 44 conference titles.


5. The Sooners hold the NCAA record for most consecutive home wins, with a total of 39 from 1953 to 1957.


6. In 2000, the Sooners had their first Heisman Trophy winner in quarterback Josh Heupel. Heupel also became the first University of Oklahoma signal caller to throw for over 4,000 yards in a single season.


7. The Sooner Schooner is one of the most iconic images associated with college football. It was introduced at halftime of the 1964 game against Texas A&M as part of Oklahoma’s Homecoming festivities and has become one of the university’s most beloved symbols.
